Chapter Five
DAYS AND MONTHS IN KOREAN
In this chapter, we are going to learn the days and months names in Korean. If you have memorized the numbers, I taught in the last chapter, it will be easy for you to catch this.
So let's not waste our time, and here we go!
DAYS
English Korean Pronunciation
Sunday 일요일 il-yo-il
Monday 월요일 wol-yo-il
Tuesday 화요일 hwa-yo-il
Wednesday 수요일 soo-yo-il
Thursday 목요일 mog-yo-il
Friday 금요일 geum-yo-il
Saturday 토요일 To-yo-il
See, it's just a piece of cake!!!
Now let's practice with some examples
Example 1
Q. 오늘은 무슨 요일이에요? What day is today? (O-neul-eun moo-seun yo-il-i-e-yo?
A. 오늘은 금요일이에요. Today is Friday. (O-neul-eun geum-yo-il-i-e-yo)
Example 2
Q. 한국어 시험이 언제예요? When is the Korean exam? (han-guk-eo si-heom-i eon-jae-ye-yo?)
A. 다음 주 수요일이에요. It's next Wednesday. (da-eum joo soo-yo-il-i-e-yo)
As you can see, we used two types of endings here. i.e.,
이에요 & 예요
Why it's like that? Why there are two types of endings? Well, we will discuss that in the next chapter. Don't forget to read the next chapter, because it is very very very important.
Now the DAYS are clear. Right?
So let's move on to MONTHS 월 (wol)
Months Korean Pronunciation
Jan 일월 il-wol
Feb 이월 i-wol
Mar 삼월 sam-wol
Apr 사월 sa-wol
May 오월 o-wol
June 유월 yoo-wol
July 칠월 chil-wol (chirwol)
Aug 팔월 pal-wol (parwol)
Sept 구월 goo-wol
Oct 시월 si-wol
Nov 십일월 sib-il-wol
Dec 십이월 sib-i-wol
See, if you have studied the numbers, I taught in the last chapter, then it is very easy to memorize the months in Korean. You just have to add this 'wol' to every number from one to twelve. If you haven't studied the numerical system in Korea, then it will be very tough for you to understand everything. So please learn it well.
